What is an IQ Test?

An IQ (Intelligence Quotient) test is a type of test designed to measure a person’s aptitude and overall problem solving ability. There are multiple versions of an IQ test, such as the Wechsler and Stanford-Binet, but they are more or less structured similarly and have similar types of questions.

Because IQ tests are standardized, scores can be compared to an overall population or from results from years past. The mean or average score is designed to be 100 with standard deviations of 15. You can refer to a standard normal distribution graph to calculate an IQ score’s percentile. For example, an IQ score of 115 is higher than 84.134% of the population and is within the 85th percentile.

Test Questions

IQ test questions are set up to assess your ability to solve problems relative to other individuals of your same age bracket. Problems can vary between written questions, visual logic puzzles, word matching, and math questions. Questions are presented in a multiple choice format.
